Weigh-In Wednesday | Hobbies

Weigh In Wednesday - JustForClicksBlog.comThe winter that never wants to end continues here in Indy.  Though I shouldn’t complain because the 14″ of predicted snow over the weekend turned out to be about 3″.  But the cold.  Oh the cold.

I decided on Sunday that I would not let the bitter temps keep me from a commitment I had made to myself to practice shooting photos.  And my sweet son agreed to join me.  So we bundled up and set out.

Weigh In Wednesday - JustForClicksBlog.comWhat does all this have to do with Weigh-In Wednesday?  Well, here’s what’s in my head….

What we eat and how we exercise are obviously critical to our health.  But when I look at my whole person, there are so many other components to being physically, mentally, and emotionally healthy.

Weigh In Wednesday - JustForClicksBlog.comSo while I am working toward making the best eating choices I can and striving toward 3-5 workouts a week, that’s not my only focus.

I recently set down to write some life goals and some tangible action steps.  It goes without saying that my first priority is my role as a wife and mom.  But down the list, I reminded myself of the extra things I enjoy and want to get good at.  The things that are mine and mine alone.  Things that I can set goals for and work to achieve.

Two of those things are photography and blogging.

Weigh In Wednesday - JustForClicksBlog.comIt’s easy to get busy in the day-to-day.  But taking time to carve out a hobby or two is so rewarding.  For me… this weekend… it blessed me with a sweet time walking in a winter wonderland with my son and new photos to cherish.

I love how you were able to use your hobby to actually share in some special time with your son. That is awesome! I have found to that there are some hobbies the Lord uses in ways I would have never imagined. For example, I love to knit and crochet. A friend suggested that when I make something for someone, to pray over that item as I make it. WOWZA. What sweet prayer time I sometimes have with that! Not to mention the joy it brings and refreshes me to “get to work”. Look forward to seeing more of your pictures as you take time for your hobby!

Doing anything outside is my hobby but shoveling snow or scraping ice isn’t on the top of that list. I look forward to warmer weather, to clean up the yard, to get flowers going again and to get my vegetable garden going. With clocks changing this weekend, even if it means losing an hour, the extra daylight will feel more like spring. Going to see what promises to be a insightful stage play this weekend, call The Mountaintop. And while it is fiction, it is a two person play with one character being MLK, Jr., in a hotel room the night before he was assassinated and his discussions with a maid. Reviews have been excellent. And I just realized that it has been almost a year since I started Paleo and find it quite the accomplishment that I have stuck to it and have no thoughts of ever going back to the way I ate before. I continue to keep my time with God and try to find something relevant (which there always is) in His book every day that will help me get through the day.

Great post today Kim! I often find myself neglecting “hobbies” with the mind set that there are so many other things to check off my list. This was a great reminder to not forget my passion(s) and sometimes it’s OK to let the laundry sit there for a bit and to make time for something fun! I too love that you turned your hobby into some special time with your son.

I’m still moving along with the same ol’ goals! I was down .4 this week for a total of 5.8 gone. I wish the # was higher, but I feel the changes I have made are going to stick. I’m in on the Daniel Detox with some of the other ladies although I did cheat and have a glass of wine last night to celebrate my husbands promotion;) But one glass is a heck of a lot better than the bottle! This week is a bit busier than most and I may only get 3-4 workouts in, instead of my usual 5. This throws me into panic mode and I’m telling myself that it’s OK and I’ll get right back to it.

    Happy WIW All!

I’m a bit late in commenting here. Today has been busy, but I read your post earlier, Kim. I love your pictures and the reminder to find time to do the things we enjoy, things just for ourselves (although as you show, you weren’t the only one who benefited – your son did, and we all did, but enjoying your pictures)!

In the last several months, my weight has fluctuated up and down by 5 lb. I guess that’s pretty much maintenance for me. It has been as low as 10 lb below where I am, now, but more typically, my low weight is 4 lb below where I am now. Today I was up 2 lb over last week, and I know one contributor to that was the pint of frozen yogurt I scarfed down yesterday. Yes, I was definitely guilty of emotional eating. But I’m doing much better today, and am using MyFitnessPal and feeling back in control. My plan for this week is to stay tuned into what my body needs, have a list of things to do (like pray, play a song on the piano, do 20 jumping jacks, vacuum my living room, or call a friend), or eat (like carrot sticks), if I get that emotional pull to eat lots of chips or chocolate or ice cream…

Thanks, Kim, for all your work in keeping this blog up and keeping the FB group going. You are very much appreciated and an inspiration! Have a great week, everyone!
